Waking up the morning of the Pescadero Road Race and looking at my alarm clock, I immediately wanted to go back to bed. However, I knew that my teammates would be expecting me at the race, and just 15 minutes later, at 4:45am, I was on the road.

On Saturday May 15th myself and 3 of my brothers (Kevin Klein, John Wilk and Vinny Owens) lined up for the Modesto Crit. The start list was small, just about 25 or so crit monsters, as others were saving it all for the Sacramento Grand Prix on Sunday.
The race started off with lots of small attacks from riders that would get a gap of no more than a few seconds. About halfway through the race Vinny Owens took a dig and went solo off the front. Quickly his gap over the field grew to over 20 seconds and for most of the course was out of sight of the main group.

On Sunday the Yahoo! Cycling Team trucked out to the Joseph Mendes Criterium in Pleasanton, CA. The course was a wide open, pan-flat rectangle with one long sweeper and three 90 degree turns. It was a toasty 85 degrees outside, but a good breeze saved us from the heat and from the negative racing we saw at the Wente Crit last week. In fact the wind was strong enough that we were confident we could put people in difficulty and snap a break off the front.
